David Pritchard-Blunt is a Musical Director and Arranger for television, theatre, and albums. He has worked on many of Australia’s premier entertainment programs, including Australian Idol and The Voice Australia. From his beginnings in New Zealand to travelling and performing around the world, David can be found in his adopted home of Sydney, Australia.
David was fortunate to have parents who were part-time musicians and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. His first break was when finishing high school in Auckland, he was asked to join the band for Billy T. James, New Zealand’s premier artist. David toured with Billy through New Zealand and Australia before leaving New Zealand to work abroad with artists such as Shirley Bassey and Sarah Brightman, before making his home base in Australia. On arrival in Sydney, he almost immediately played for his first Australian television gig, appearing on The Midday Show with American country artist, Trisha Yearwood, with whom he was touring at the time. This was the start of a career in television, including 7 seasons of Australian Idol, 12 seasons (ongoing) of The Voice Australia and 20 years of arranging and playing for annual national television fixtures, Carols By Candlelight and Australia Day Live, for which David is Musical Director. During this time, David has been fortunate to work with the cream of Australian and international talent, from Kylie Minogue to Burt Bacharach.
